Albany Law School alumni, faculty, students, staff and friends gathered on Friday, March 25, in celebration of outgoing President and Dean Thomas Guernsey as one of the most distinguished deans in the school's 159-year history.
When he arrived at Albany Law School in September 2002, Dean Guernsey defined his vision for the institution in simple terms: smaller, smarter and more selective.
During his tenure, Dean Guernsey balanced the budget and stabilized the law school financially. He inspired a higher level of faculty scholarship. He created a new endowed professorship, the President William McKinley Distinguished Professorship in Law and Public Policy, and he also bolstered the Harold R. Tyler Jr. and Kate Stoneman chairs, filling them with nationally prominent scholars. His leadership inspired board members, alumni and faculty to support the law school at unprecedented levels.
The event, "A Tribute to President & Dean Thomas F. Guernsey," took place from 6:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at Taste (formerly dale miller), a restaurant located at 30 South Pearl St. in downtown Albany. Cost to attend was $100 per person, with the proceeds supporting the Thomas F. Guernsey Faculty Research and Scholarship Fund at Albany Law School.
Albany Law School would like to thank the following sponsors for their generous support: Bond, Schoeneck & King, PLLC; Janitronics; Hugh Johnson Advisors LLC; Cool Insuring Agency; The Pressroom; 2k Design; and Healthy Café Catering.
A community-wide event will be held April 14 at Albany Law School. Please register by contacting Tammy Weinman at 518-445-3210 or email@example.com by April 11.
