Leslie Kelmachter '77, a partner at Jacob Fuchsberg in the New York City, was recently named president of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association. The fourth woman to serve as president of the association since its founding in 1953, she will serve a one-year term.
"I am honored to be leading a distinguished organization that is dedicated to preserving the rights of the most vulnerable in our society," said Kelmachter. "I am committed to continuing the mission of the association and strengthening its voice at every turn to make sure the civil justice system remains open to all."
Kelmachter joined the Fuchsberg law firm in 2000, and she has successfully tried cases in state and federal courts involving personal injury, medical malpractice, product liability and wrongful death. Previously, she served as chair of the Tort Litigation Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.
A member of the Albany Law School Board of Trustees, Kelmachter has remained active with the law school throughout her career, including participating as a panelist for the 2009 "Women in Litigation: Challenges and Achievements" installment of the Kate Stoneman Series.
