James E. Hacker '84, trustee of Albany Law School and managing partner of Hacker Murphy, LLP, has been named the 2014 "Lawyer of the Year" for Commercial Litigation in the Albany, N.Y., area by U.S. News' "Best Lawyers" publication.

Only a single lawyer in each practice area and designated Metropolitan area is honored as the "Lawyer of the Year." Lawyers being honored as Lawyer of the Year are selected based on voting averages received during the peer-review assessments conducted by Best Lawyers with thousands of leading lawyers each year.

Earlier this year, Hacker was selected as the "Lawyer of the Year" in his other primary practice area of plaintiff's personal injury law.
