Albany Law School will delay opening until 11am due to the weather.
Several graduates of Albany Law School were among the honorees at the New York State Bar Association's annual meeting, January 23-27 in New York City.
NYSBA and its sections conferred awards throughout the week. Winners included:
• Trustee E. Stewart Jones Jr. ’66, recipient of the
Attorney Professionalism Award for displaying the highest standards of professionalism, commitment to promoting respect for the legal system, outstanding ethical conduct, competence, good judgment, integrity and civility.
• Trustee Peter C. Kopff ’75, recipient of the Trial Lawyers Section Distinguished Service Award.
• Anne Reynolds Copps ’81, recipient of the
Real Property Law Section Professionalism Award.
• Jean F. Gerbini ’85, recipient of the
John E. Leach Memorial Award for outstanding service and distinguished contributions to the legal profession as a member of the Torts, Insurance and Compensation Law Section.
• Karen L. Murtagh ’85, who was announced as an award winner for
Outstanding Contribution in the Field of Correctional Services. She will be formally recognized at the Criminal Justice Section's meeting in May.
• Curtis A. Johnson ’07, recipient of the
NYSBA Outstanding Young Lawyer Award for 2017.
Apart from the NYSBA awards,
many alumni have been hired, promoted, or recognized in recent months. Notable updates include:
• Board Vice Chair James E. Hacker ’84 and
Michael J. Murphy
’82 were admitted as Fellows of the American College of Trial Lawyers, one of the premier legal associations in North America. Additionally, Mr. Hacker was sworn in as President of the Albany County Bar Association on January 19.
• Hon. John J. Reilly
Hon. Holly A. Trexler ’97 were appointed Albany City Court Judges.
• Hon. Elizabeth A. Garry
’90 was named Co-Chair of the new LGBT Commission in New York State.
• Denise V. Gonick
’91 was named Chair of the Board of the Capital Region Chamber.
• Trustee Hon. Christina L. Ryba
’01 became President-Elect of the Albany County Bar Association.
• Michael Lieberman
’15 joined the New York Credit Union Association as Vice President of Governmental Affairs.
• Max T. Lindsey
Paul J. Buehler
joined Whiteman Osterman & Hanna LLP as associate attorneys.
