How to Apply for Financial Aid

Financial aid application brochures and forms are mailed to all accepted applicants along with their acceptance packet from Admissions. Returning students will get them in their mailbox or you can obtain the packet from the Financial Aid Office.

You are encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by April 15 for full consideration of certain limited funds, and to ensure that your aid is processed in time to appear on your fall tuition bill. Beginning in mid-March, accepted applicants with a completed FAFSA on file will receive a letter of estimated eligibility. Once both deposits are paid, an official award letter and instruction packet will be mailed to you for completion.

1. Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

  • You can file electronically at: www.fafsa.ed.gov
  • Albany Law School's Title IV Code is: G02886
  • You will need your federal PIN; if needed, please visit www.pin.ed.gov for assistance.

2. Complete the 2014-15 Information Form [PDF].

3. Please go to www.studentloans.gov to complete the following three steps (you will need your federal pin number again) :

  • Complete the mandatory entrance counseling (be sure to indicate that you are a graduate student)
  • Complete the Stafford (subsidized/unsubsidized) Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN)
  • Complete the Grad PLUS Master Promissory Note (MPN). Once you are logged in, please use the selection for "Complete Master Promissory Note." This link will get you to the MPN for both Stafford and Grad PLUS. If you use the link "Start PLUS Application Process," that is NOT sufficient.

Award letters are sent later in spring; you do NOT need to wait for the award letter to complete your MPN's and entrance counseling.
