On Nov. 7, Albany Law School's Health Law Society presented
"Dying with Dignity: The Right to Choice in Dying." The public forum featured David C. Leven, executive director of the nonprofit organization Compassion & Choices of New York.
Leven spoke about the issues concerning choice in dying and
Gonzales v. Oregon, in which the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of Oregon's Death with Dignity Act, a law permitting doctors to prescribe lethal drugs to terminal patients who request them.
Leven is an advocate for expanding life choices. In 2007, he pushed to have legislation introduced and enacted in New York to improve pain and palliative care and to increase the number of people who complete health care proxies. Learn more about David Leven. [PDF]
