Albany Law School provides one of "the best experiences for lawyers from other countries" who are pursuing an LL.M. degree in the United States, according to the online magazine
In its 2018 cover story,
"The Great American Experience,"
International Jurist highlighted 25 schools across six popular practice areas. The magazine said Albany Law School made the list for its strengths in U.S. government and politics.
"The study [of] U.S. government and politics doesn't have to take place in the nation's capital," wrote Tyler Roberts and Katie Thisdell. "International students looking to understand the U.S. political system and government structure may also want to consider pursuing an LL.M. in a state capital."
Albany Law School is located in New York State's capital city—the heart of state government—which offers a wealth of opportunities for LL.M. candidates. As the home of New York's highest court, federal courts, and the state legislature, Albany serves as a laboratory for the study of law.
Albany Law School also is home to the Government Law Center (GLC), the country's oldest law school-based research center focusing on the intersection of law and public policy.
"For international LL.M. students, this provides many opportunities to work with policy experts on fascinating legal and policy issues," the authors said of Albany Law.
The law school offers an LL.M. specialization in
Governmental Administration and Regulation with myriad courses related to government law, as well as field placements and internships in government law offices at the federal, state, and local levels, including legislative and executive agencies.
The Governmental Administration and Regulation program is intended for international lawyers who do not plan to take the bar exam, or students with a J.D. degree from a U.S. law school. Other specializations include:
Advanced Legal Studies;
Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Law (100% online);
Health and Human Rights;
Intellectual Property Law; and
For international law graduates who seek an academic program to qualify for admission to the bar, Albany Law School offers an
