President and Dean Penelope (Penny) Andrews, a South African who met Nelson Mandela, and whose 2001 book, “The Post-Apartheid Constitutions: Perspectives on South Africa’s Basic Law” (co-edited with Professor Stephen Ellmann), features a foreword by Mandela, was called on by newspapers, radio and television to describe her experiences and thoughts on the man whom she calls a “giant.”

"His story is about how one man's struggle can persuade others to pursue justice and equality," she told one reporter.

“Everyone could claim him as their own symbol of justice,” she told another reporter.

Dean Andrew's picture ran on the front page of the Times Union's weekend paper.
