Edward Hyde Clarke's essay "Green Alert: The Need to Rescue New York's Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard" won first place in the New York State Bar Association's 2013 Professor William R. Ginsberg Memorial Essay Contest.

He was honored at NYSBA’s Environmental Law Section's Fall Meeting last month, and his article will be published in the next issue of New York Environmental Lawyer.

In the article, Clarke analyzes current energy policies in New York state, with special attention paid to renewable energy and a specific major energy generation project, the Champlain Hudson Power Express. He originally wrote the article to satisfy his writing requirement for the Albany Law Review, where he is Executive Editor for Business.

The Professor William R. Ginsberg Memorial Essay Contest is open to all New York state law students and is designed to challenge law students to analyze contemporary environmental issues.

Clarke is also one of two student editors-in-chief, along with Mark Houston '14, of New York Environmental Lawyer, the publication of the Environmental Law Section.
