Speakers to Debate Constitutionality of "Obamacare"

The Albany Law School Student Chapter and Capital District Lawyers Chapter of The Federalist Society will host two speakers to debate "Is 'Obamacare' Constitutional?" on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011, at 6:00 p.m. in Room E116 at the law school.

The event's speakers will be:

  • Robert Alt, Senior Legal Fellow and Deputy Director, Center for Judicial Studies, The Heritage Foundation, Washington, D.C.
  • Scott Lemieux, Assistant Professor of Political Science, College of St. Rose, Albany, N.Y.

Albany Law School Professor Beverly Cohen will moderate the debate.

Alt has written and lectured extensively on issues of constitutional law, with particular emphasis on civil rights law, election law, separation of powers, antiterrorism law and the law of war. He also has extensive first-hand experience in scrutinizing the legal implications of the War on Terror after spending five months in Iraq in 2004.

Professor Lemieux focuses on public law, constitutional law, comparative law and institutions, and American politics. He has written or co-written articles for Polity, Studies in Law, Politics and Society and the American Journal of Comparative Law, among others, and he also contributes regularly to the American Prospect and the Guardian Online.
