U.S. Agriculture Secretary Vilsack '75 Speaks at D.C. Reception

Thomas Vilsack, former two-term Iowa governor and President Barack Obama's Secretary of Agriculture, was the featured guest at a Washington, D.C., alumni reception on Wednesday, March 24.

Board of Trustees Chairman E. Stewart Jones introduced the Secretary.

Secretary Vilsack served two terms as governor of Iowa, that state's first democratic governor in 32 years.

He served as national co-chair to Secretary of State Hilary Clinton's presidential campaign. He also served as co-chair, with former N.Y. Governor George Pataki, on an independent task force to make U.S. policy recommendations for international engagement on climate change.

In 2007 he received Albany Law School's Distinuished Alumni Award.  

In addition to a distinguished public service career, the Pittsburgh native is a highly regarded litigator with more than 25 years of trial experience handling complex litigation and class actions with state-wide and national implications.
