Sabrina Ty '89 was appointed deputy secretary of legislative affairs by New York State Governor-elect Andrew Cuomo '82, effective once he takes office next year.
Ty currently serves as legislative counsel to the Speaker of the New York State Assembly, responsible for overseeing the development of all major programmatic legislation and directing a team of 90 program and counsel staff in all legislative negotiations. She also plays a lead role in annual budget negotiations, particularly in the areas of education, higher education, economic development, MTA and DOT capital, public authority financing and bonding.
A member of the Assembly staff since 1995, Ty served as deputy counsel, legislative coordinator and associate counsel to the Assembly Education and Higher Education Committees prior to becoming legislative counsel in 2007.
A graduate of Albany Law School and McGill University, Ty began her career as an attorney at the law firm of Couch, White, Brenner, Howard & Feigenbaum and later served as a government relations representative for the New York State School Boards Association. She lives in Clifton Park, N.Y., with her husband and son.
