Albany Law School Professor Bridgit Burke was named recipient of the New York State Developmental Disabilities Planning Council's "Community Leader of the Year" award for 2007. Burke is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Law and director of the Civil Rights & Disabilities Law Clinic in Albany Law School's Clinic & Justice Center.
The Community Leader of the Year award honors a local public official or community leader who, through his/her efforts, has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to the support of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families, and whose accomplishments have led to increased opportunities for disabled New Yorkers to pursue educational, employment, independent living and community participation opportunities.
Through her teaching and her significant pro bono work, Burke has long advocated for rights and opportunities for people with disabilities to pursue education, independence and community participation.
She will be honored at a ceremony in Albany this fall.
